Funeral services for Daniel Helberg of Cyrus will be held Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Hoffman, Minnesota. Minister Bev McNeill and Pastor Linda Helberg will be officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in Aeneas Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hoffman.
Daniel Roy Helberg, son of Roy and Gladys (Smith) Helberg, was born May 13, 1954 in Morris, Minnesota. He was confirmed on September 21, 1969 by Pastor Peterson. Dan attended Cyrus High School, graduating on May 19, 1972. Dan continued his education at Willmar Vocational Technical School for Mechanics. Dan was married to Char Zinda on November 11, 1976 and to this union two children were born: Tanya and Josh. They lived north of Cyrus on the family dairy farm. Upon retirement from dairy and grain farming, he worked for Dennis Bruns and Haberer Farms, where he has continued to work until the time of his death. He lived with his spouse Renea Gorham at the time of his death.
Dan was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Hoffman. He enjoyed wood carving, hunting, fishing, traveling, gardening, driving tractor and visiting with people. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Dan died on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 56 years.
He is survived by two children: Tanya (Shawn) Ange of Mankato and Josh Helberg (fiancé: Heather Geers) of Becker; one grandson: Liam Ange of Mankato; mother: Gladys Helberg of Morris; spouse: Renea Gorham of Cyrus and two sisters: Beverly (John) McNeill of Morris and Linda Helberg of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his father: Roy Helberg.
Pallbearers for the service are: Larry Bye, Randy Haberer, Reed Haberer, Don Huntley, Cy Lucas, John McNeill, Vern Richter and Paul Stark. Rita Lambert will serve as organist for the service with Deb Alberts serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
