Funeral services for Darlene Drewes of Morris, MN will be held Friday, June 12, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris, with Interim Chris Richards officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery at a later date.
Darlene Cora Lange, daughter of Roland and Cora (Wilson) Lange, was born July 7, 1926 at her parent's home in Everglade Township. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church near Johnson, MN and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Donnelly. Darlene attended Donnelly Elementary School and Alberta High School, where she graduated in May, 1944. Following her graduation, Darlene worked as a secretary at the Donnelly Farmers Elevator until February, 1946. On February 20, 1946, she was united in marriage to Herbert Drewes at St. John's Lutheran Church in Donnelly by Pastor Vagts. To this union five children were born. For the first ten years of marriage, Darlene and Herb lived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where Darlene worked as a secretary at Sioux Valley Hospital. In 1952, they moved back to Morris to help Herb's sister run the farm. The couple later moved into Morris, where Darlene ran a day care, which she dearly loved all her little ones. She retired in 1988. Darlene and Herb then sold their house and lived in their camper. For the next ten years, they would head to Mission, Texas for the winter and back to Hobo Park in Starbuck for the summer. In 2003, they settled in Lowry, until June, 2008, when Herb moved to West Wind Village in Morris. Herb died on August 5, 2009 and Darlene has continued to live in Morris, since that time.
Darlene was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Morris and the VFW Auxiliary. Darlene especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Darlene died on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris. She lived to 88 years.
She is survived by five children: James (Ann Nygaard) Drewes of Lowry, Judith Hage of Andover, Jerald (Teresa Grotjohn) Drewes of Park Rapids, Jean (Adrian) Haabala of South Haven and Joel (Claire McNulty) Drewes of Breckenridge, CO; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and three sisters: Mildred Maus of Chokio, Joyce Kramer of Morris and Emma McNeil of Corsicana, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herb; one grandchild: Jeremy; her parents, Roland and Cora; two brothers: Floyd and Harold Lange and one sister: Lola Michaelson.
