Darlene Carol Dolva, was born June 17, 1919 to Carl and Agnes (Quam) Dolva. She graduated from Morris High School in 1937 and graduated from nursing school at St. Lukes/Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago. She entered the Armed Forces in 1944 as an Army nurse serving in Hawaii, treating at times Japanese prisoners of war. Darlene married Alvin H. Nelson on July 4, 1946. Darlene worked as a Registered Nurse at the Stevens County Hospital and Morris Clinic. She retired after 25 years of service at the clinic.
Darlene was a life member of the VFW, Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion, as well as being active in the American Cancer Society and American Red Cross.
Darlene died peacefully surrounded by her children at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby, MN, having lived to reach the age of 87 years.
She is survived by her son: Jim (Linda) Nelson of Esko; daughters: Kerry (Gary) Turck of Roy, UT and Laurie (Rod) Ogard of Deerwood; grandchildren: Teresa (Andy) Moerke of Cottage Grove, Ryan Nelson of Brooklyn Park, Brian (Lois) Turck of Oswego, IL, Julie (Wayne) Gipson of Roy, UT, Kathie Turck of Roy, UT and her fiancAC.: Steven Valentine of Clearfield, UT, Dan Ogard of St. Paul, Erika Ogard of St. Paul and her fiancAC.: Sam Anderson of Duluth and David Ogard of Deerwood and great-grandchildren: Brandon and Alexandra Turck and Keegan Moerke.
Pallbearers for the service are: Teresa Moerke, Andrew Moerke, Ryan Nelson, Brian Turck, Lois Turck, Julie Gipson, Wayne Gipson, Kathie Turck, Dan Ogard, Erika Ogard, Sam Anderson and David Ogard. Honorary pallbearers are: Roy Lucken, Ken Cruze, Lloyd Hoyer, Lee Temte, Willie Martin and Sheridan Halbe. Deb Mahoney will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation for the excellent care Darlene received through the Home Care Department of Stevens Community Hospital and seven plus years at Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby.
