Funeral services for Darrell "Bud" Johnson of Chokio will be held Friday, February 8, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio. Reverend Gloria Anderson will be officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris. Military rites will be provided by the Chokio American Legion, Morris American Legion, AmVets and VFW.

Darrell "Bud" was born on October 11, 1934 to the late Carl and Dagna "Alvers" Johnson in LuVerne, Iowa, It was in Iowa where he was raised as one of seven children. Bud and family moved to Chokio, MN in 1947, where he graduated from the Chokio High School in 1952. Following his schooling, Bud worked as a hired hand for local farmers before enlisting in the United States Army on December 7, 1954, where he served in Alaska as a radio operator for over a year. On May 26, 1958, Bud transferred to standby Reserve and received an honorable discharge on July 31, 1963. Upon his return from Alaska, Bud returned to the Chokio area, where he married his beautiful bride, Joile Jean Stevenson on January 18, 1957 at First Lutheran Church in Morris. They made their home in Chokio, where they were blessed with five children. Over the years Bud worked for the Stevens County Auditor, Chokio State Bank, Kleespie Tank and New Horizon's, where he especially loved driving the tractors.

Bud enjoyed tending to his horses, driving his buggy in many parades and participating in horse shows and trail rides, as well as spending many hours in his garden. He also enjoyed woodworking and all of the little projects that came along with it. Bud served many years as a volunteer on the Chokio Fire Department. He especially enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's school activities and ball games. Bud will always be remembered for his long list of family and friends, who loved him for his fun-loving and sharp sense of humor.

Darrell "Bud" Clifton Johnson passed away in the early morning of February 4th, 2013 surrounded by family at his home in Chokio, MN. He lived to reach the age of 78 years.

Survivors include his five children: Lori (Dean) Kolden of Mound, MN, Karen (Tom) Lane of Rosholt, SD, Kristi (Cal) Lillehaug of Clinton, MN, Liane (Jim) Claassen of Chokio, MN, and Kirby (Jeni) Johnson of Chokio, MN; siblings: Mavis Vorland of Chokio, MN, Lorraine Awsumb of Morris, MN, Winston "Wink" (Mayva) Johnson, Herman, MN and Shirley (Ken) Kasuske of Ashland, NE; 13 grandchildren: Lindsay (Ben) Eaton, Lacey (Andy) Berres, Lexi and Lauren Kolden, Baylie and Jakson Lane, Zackary (fiancé Zanna Fitzgerald) Anderson, Jacob and Isaac Lillehaug, Luke Claassen, Cody, Max and Quin Johnson; four great-grandchildren: Addison and Avery Eaton, Emma Kolden and Ashton Berres; four step-grandchildren: Tom (Kelly) Claassen, Linda Claassen, Jason (Colleen) Johnson and Dustin (Christy) Schmidgall and six step-great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; parents-in-law: Carl and Lila Stevenson; sisters and brothers-in-law: Wanda and Ferd Zamzow, Phyllis and Dale Smith, Torgney Awsumb and Glen Vorland.

Pallbearers for the service are: Luke Claassen, Jim Claassen, Carl Smith, Kevin Smith, Dave Smith, Galen Vorland, Wayne Vorland and Brian Stevenson. Honorary pallbearers are all of Bud's grandchildren, Army buddies and close family friends. Julene Amborn will serve as organist for the service with Janine Teske and Melissa and Dennis Fronning family providing special music. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
