Funeral services for Darrell Smith of Morris, MN will be held Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Morris. Reverend Marlin Mohrman will be officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Darrell Leroy Smith, son of Leland and Joyce (Anderson) Smith, was born March 31, 1937 at Glenwood, MN. He grew up east of Hancock, MN and graduated from Hancock Public School in 1955. Following graduation, he served in the United States Air Force for four years. He attended Bailey Technical School for diesel and gas mechanics at St. Louis, MO. Darrell worked for Alley Construction at Faribault, MN, from 1960-1961. He was united in marriage to Bonita Bier of Hancock, MN on December 2, 1961. He farmed for four years. He was employed for Golden Cream (Cass Clay) of Morris, MN for 13 years and was in the implement business for six years before going to work for Superior Industries of Morris, MN from 1985-2014.
Over the years Darrell served as a Sunday school teacher, board member, deacon and was a member of the Evangelical Free Church of Morris, MN. He read his Bible daily and spent much time in prayer.
Darrell died on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at the West Wind Village in Morris. He was 77 years old.
He is survived by his wife Bonita of Morris; six daughters: Linda (Brad) Foss of Hancock, Teresa (Joe) Pignato of Cottage Grove, Diana (Matt) Hedstrom of Detroit Lakes, Dorinda (Forrest) Mote of Amarillo, TX, Shelley (Tim) Brackin of Pella, IA and Vivian (John) Foldenaur of Andover; one sister: Georgia (the late Edwin) Manska of Morris; two brothers: Gary (Elna) Smith of Hancock and Richard (Candy) Smith of Willmar; 17 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren and by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Joyce and Leland Smith; grandparents: Ermine and Orpha Smith and John and Louise Anderson; step-grandmother: Edith Smith; an infant brother and son-in-law: Jerry Mumm.
