The funeral for David L. Hoffman, of Morris, Minnesota will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Celebrant for the funeral will be Father Todd Schneider. Visitation will be held at Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris on Friday from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery, Morris.
David Laverne Hoffman, son of Leonard and Gertrude (Schnitzler) Hoffman was born on October 12, 1946 in Morris, Minnesota. David grew up near Hancock graduating from Hancock High School in 1964. After graduating, David enlisted in the Army National Guard for six years of service. He was united in marriage to Linda Minder on April 29, 1967 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. The couple made their home in Morris, where David worked for the Morris Co-op. He and Linda then moved to Crookston, Minnesota and David entered The University of Minnesota of Crookston graduating in 1970. The couple returned to Morris where David worked as a professional truck driver for 38 years, including 23 years of service at Viessman Trucking. He retired in February of 2013 and continued to live in Morris.
David was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church. He enjoyed camping, gardening and woodworking. He was known for his gift of conversation, navigating through the United States, being a history buff and having the alias of Mr. Coffee. However, he will always be remembered for the love he had for his family, especially his grandchildren. He could often be heard saying "I drive backwards more than you drive forward" and "I'm super good" when he was asked how he was doing.
David died on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris. He was 67 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, Morris, MN; four children, Lori (Chad) Amborn, Lakeville, MN, Jean (Dave) Rohloff, Morris, MN, Nancy VonHaden, Sioux Falls, SD and Eric (Naomi) Hoffman, Morris, MN; nine siblings, Ron (Ginny) Hoffman, Alexandria, MN, Diane (Donny) Fischer, Appleton, MN, Donna (Dwight) Quandt, Villard, MN, Marsha (Don) Timmerman, Osakis, MN, Sandy Riley, Sioux Falls, SD, Becky (Gene) Kotz, Blaine, MN, Dan Hoffman, Morris, MN, Jerry (Colleen) Hoffman, Moorhead, MN and Wendy (Jim) Howe, St. Cloud, MN and eighteen grandchildren. David was preceded in death by one son, Michael Hoffman, his parents and one grandson, Ian Amborn.
