David Ranum

David Walter Ranum, son of Arthur and Agnes (Kirkwold) Ranum, was born January 26, 1934 in Starbuck, Minnesota, where he grew up and was baptized and confirmed at Indherred Lutheran Church. He began his schooling in Starbuck, graduating from the Starbuck High School in 1952. David continued his education at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, graduating in 1956. Following his schooling, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving until 1958, when he received an honorable discharge. David moved to California following his discharge and worked as a computer programmer. On August 3, 1963, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Lou Griffith in Santa Monica, California. The couple continued to live in California until 1969, when they moved to Starbuck, MN, where they have farmed until the time of David's death.



He enjoyed reading, cross country skiing and listening to music. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.



David died on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at his home in Starbuck, having lived to reach the age of 74 years.



He is survived by his wife: Bonnie Lou Ranum of Starbuck; two children: Daniel Ranum of Golden Valley and Kari Ranum of Seattle, WA; six brothers & sisters: Julia Mason of Hopkins, Harold (Betty) Ranum of Holmes City, Ernest (Betty) Ranum of Goleta, CA, Alice (Leonard) Drake of Starbuck, Paul (Caryl Nelson) Ranum of Glenwood and John (Joyce) Ranum of Great Falls, MT and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter: Laura Ellen Ranum; his parents and one brother: Ralph Ranum.



Amy VanZee will serve as organist for the service. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
