Deloris was born January 29, 1926 to Alvin and Hazel (Johnson) Rosaasen in Sacred Heart, Minnesota. She was baptized on April 1, 1926 at Our Savior?s Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart, on her grandmother, Carrie Rosaasen?s birthday. On May 18, 1940, she was confirmed at the same church. Hazel passed away when Deloris was 1 year old. She went to live with her maternal grandparents, Peder and Betsey Johnson, until she graduated from high school with honors in 1943. On November 16, 1943, she married LeRoy Lanning at the First Lutheran Church Parsonage in Renville, MN. They lived on a farm north of Renville that they rented for 8 years. In 1951, they moved to a farm north of Starbuck and lived there for 27 years before they retired and moved into Starbuck. In July 1994, she fell and broke her hip and has resided at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home until the time of her death.
Deloris was a housewife and active with the Indherred Church as ELCA President twice and Sunday School Teacher. She loved to entertain, cook, embroidery, bake her famous buns, can and garden. She had a great memory for remembering peoples names, dates of events, birthdays and anniversaries. Her grandsons were her greatest pride and joy.
Deloris died on Monday, October 10, 2005 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, having lived to reach the age of 79 years.
She is survived by her husband: LeRoy Lanning of Starbuck; one daughter: Debra (Terry) Piekarski of Lowry; two grandsons: Patrick Piekarski of Fargo and Mitchell Piekarski of Morris; stepmother: Pearl Rosaasen of Sacred Heart; stepbrother: Merle Rosaasen of Eden Prairie and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; sister: Lorraine Hedin and stepsister: Dolores Mae Grabow.
