Funeral services for Deloris Philiph of Morris, MN will be held Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris, with Reverend Dell Sanderson officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Vinger Cemetery near Donnelly.
Deloris May Philiph, daughter of Lyle and Amelia (Neitzel) Lewis was born September 18, 1930 in Donnelly Township. When Deloris was young, the family moved to Barrett, MN, where she attended grade school. In 1944, her father joined the navy and the family moved to Morris, where she finished her schooling. Deloris attended and was confirmed at the Peace Lutheran Church in Morris. Following her schooling, she worked as a waitress and cook in several area restaurants. On May 15, 1950, she was united in marriage to Delbert Philiph. The couple made their home in Morris, where they raised their five daughters. Delbert started his own construction business; a full time homemaker, Deloris also began doing the painting and wood finishing in the houses Delbert built. Deloris also worked at the Morris Public School in the food service department for 21 years, retiring at the age of 74. Delbert died on March 1, 2000 and Deloris has continued to make her home in Morris until the time of her death.
Deloris was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Morris and the Morris American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting and had made many afghan's for her family and baby afghans for the baptisms held at her church. She also enjoyed going out for coffee or lunch with her daughters and friends from school, working word find books, feeding the birds and squirrels, gardening, refinishing furniture and making donuts for her family. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family.
Deloris died on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck. She lived to 84 years.
She is survived by her daughters: Connie (Butch) Engler of Hancock, Wynne Philiph of Morris, Cindy (Rick) Thielke of Hancock and Mary Philiph of Morris; six grandchildren: Roxie (Shawn) Green of Alexandria, Jenny (Eric) Rose of Morris, Shawn Engler of Hoffman, Krissie (Kyle) Rose of Hancock, Emily Thielke of Hancock and Michael (Lisa) Thielke of Hancock; 11 great-grandchildren: Sadie and Peyton Green of Alexandria, Dylan and Caden Rose of Morris, Dalton, Davin and Isabel Rose of Hancock, Christopher Thielke of Benson, Emmett Thielke of Hancock and Bridgett and Mandy Anderson of Hancock; one sister: Ethel Holslin of Buffalo and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her daughter: Pat Peterson; sister and brother-in-law: Lois and Harvey Pederson; brother: Orville Lewis; brother-in-law: Bob Holslin and her sister-in-law and her husband: Evelyn and Fred Hassler.
