There will be a visitation for Donald Groth of Morris on Friday, October 18, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m. with a prayer service at 3:30 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris. A private family burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Donald Groth, son of Harry and Emma (Graber) Groth, was born July 12, 1922 in Morris, Minnesota and grew up in Alberta, Minnesota. Don was a World War II Veteran, having served as a flight engineer in the 8th Air Force Training Command at San Antonio, Texas. Following his honorable discharge, Don returned to Morris, where he owned and operated the Morris Oil Company until his retirement.
Don was a longtime member of the Morris Lions Club and Faith Lutheran Church. He always stayed involved in community events in Morris. Don and his wife, Mavis also enjoyed spending time in Outing, Minnesota and Phoenix, Arizona, where they lived much of their retired life. Don liked to keep active and was able to travel to many places in his life. His favorites among them were Alaska and Canada.
Don died on Friday, September 27, 2013 at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury, Minnesota. He lived to reach the age of 91 years.
He is survived by his children: Greg Groth of Morris, Susan Hill of Woodbury, Scott Groth of Pine Island and four grandchildren: Newell Hill of Belle Plaine, Anne Groth of New Hope, Janna Hill of Minneapolis and Dr. Elizabeth Groth of West Lafayette, IN. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis (Hanson) Groth; his parents; one brother: William Groth and one sister: Geneva Plant.
