Donna Nibbe

Funeral services for Donna Nibbe of Willmar, MN, formerly of Morris, MN will be held Friday, October 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris with her son, Bill Nibbe, officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be at Summit Cemetery in Morris, MN.

Donna Mae Louise Poppe, daughter of Walter and Hilda (Schliep) Poppe, was born July 31, 1928 in Makoti, ND. She was baptized at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Makoti, ND and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Morris, MN.  Donna attended Minnesota District 41 country school and graduated from Morris High School.  Following her graduation, Donna attended St. Cloud Teachers College in St. Cloud, MN.  She was united in marriage to James Nibbe on August 23, 1953 at Zion Lutheran Church in Morris.  They were blessed with five children.  Donna worked as an elementary school teacher, teaching the second grade in Excelsior, MN and later as a substitute teacher in Willmar, MN.  She also took care of several special needs children at her home over many years.  Jim passed away October 1, 2004.  Donna continued to live in Willmar, MN until 2021 when she moved to Brainerd, MN to be closer to her family. 

Donna was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar and a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening and sewing; making most of her children’s clothing. She was a talented baker who regularly entered her goodies in the annual baking competition at the Kandiyohi County Fair and took home numerous blue ribbons.

Donna passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at the Woodland Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Brainerd, MN.  She was 95 years old.

She is survived by her children: Scott (Colleen) Nibbe of Fairfax, VA, Robert (Caroline) Nibbe of Brainerd, William (Vickie) Nibbe of Howard Lake, Barbara (Rick) Lau of Fargo, ND and James (Denise) Nibbe of Fifty Lakes; 14 grandchildren: Crystal Nibbe, Courtney Messerly, Zena Lomprey, Uriah Nibbe, Aaron Nibbe, Hannah Erickson, Ian Nibbe, David Nibbe, Evan Nibbe, Leah Nibbe, Rochelle Nibbe, James Nibbe, Justin Sebring and Jacob Sebring; three great-grandchildren: Evanna Erickson, Brandt Erickson and William Messerly and one brother: James (Chieko) Poppe of Loveland, CO. She was preceded in death by her husband: Jim Nibbe, her parents; and brother: Don Poppe.
