Doris Jean Christensen, daughter of Chris and Hanna (Wilson) Christensen, was born November 11, 1926 on a farm north of Chokio, Minnesota. She was baptized June 19, 1927 at a Lutheran Church in Spencer, Iowa and confirmed June 15, 1941 at Zion Lutheran Church in Chokio. Doris grew up and attended school in Chokio, graduating in 1944. Following graduation, she spent a year at home before moving to Minneapolis to attend Paul's Beauty School and earned her license. She then returned to Morris, where she worked at LePage Beauty Shop for two years. On March 6, 1948 she was united in marriage to Victor Zimmerman at Zion Lutheran Church in Chokio. They spent their entire 63 years of married life on the same farm working and raising their family. After Vic's passing in April of 2011, Doris continued to live in her home on the farm until she became ill recently.
She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She did a lot of embroidery in her spare time as well as sewing baby blankets for gifts. Her membership in the Forget-Me-Not Homemakers Club all of her married life was important to her. Doris and her husband Victor traveled all over the United States on numerous bus trips and made many friends among their traveling companions. She had a great sense of humor and usually knew what to say to cheer you up and encourage her family and friends. Having been a hairdresser, Doris enjoyed her weekly trips to her hairdresser to get her hair cut, set or permed.
