Dorothy Balluff

October 11, 1916 — January 8, 2006

Dorothy Elizabeth Kaye, daughter of Jim and Bertha (Marcks) Kaye, was born October 11, 1916 in South St. Paul, Minnesota. She grew up in South St. Paul and graduated from South St. Paul High School. On June 12, 1936, she was united in marriage to Alois Balluff in South St. Paul, where the couple made their home until Al was drafted into the Army in 1943. At that time, Dorothy and the children moved to Morris, MN to live. After his discharge, Al joined the family in Morris. Dorothy was working in the billing office at the Stevens County Memorial Hospital, which she continued to do for several more years. She later took a job working for Monroe Photography, where she remained until her retirement. After retiring, Dorothy and Al enjoyed spending time fishing and playing cards with family and friends. Al died on May 21, 1983. Dorothy continued living in Morris, where she remained an active member of Assumption Catholic Church, working with the Daughters of Isabella, the Christian Mothers and the Assumption Guild.

Some of Dorothy's favorite hobbies included playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, crocheting and knitting. She also loved fishing and going for long walks with her special friend, Hulda Fischbach. Most of all, Dorothy loved her family, and cherished the time spent with each and every one of them.

Dorothy died on Sunday, January 8, 2006 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 89 years.

She is survived by: one daughter: Kay (Gerald) Laager of Morris; one son: Robert (Judy) Balluff of Moorhead; 6 grandchildren: Cheryl (Tom) Spalding of Maple Grove, Renee (Parker) Kloos of Donnelly, Christine (Todd) Brousseau of St. Michael, Dawn (Chip) Storandt of Moorhead, Tom (Andrea) Balluff of Anoka and Mark(Amy) Balluff of Moorhead and 12 great-grandchildren: Jessica Spalding, Jacob Spalding, Nicholas Kloos, Amanda Kloos, Ammy Brousseau, Sean Brousseau, Sarah Storandt, Michael Storandt, Emily Balluff, Jared Balluff, Tyler Balluff and Halle Balluff. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents and one brother: Jim Kaye, Jr.

Pallbearers for the service are: Tom Spalding, Parker Kloos, Todd Brousseau, Chip Storandt, Tom Balluff and Mark Balluff. JoAnne Foley will serve as pianist for the service with Tom Horning serving as song leader. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
