Funeral services for Dorothy Perkins, of Morris, Minnesota, will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Donnelly, Minnesota, with Reverend Michael Nelson officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Vinger Cemetery, rural Donnelly.
Dorothy Ann Perkins was born on October 25, 1937 to Elsie B. Perkins. She grew up and attended school in Donnelly. Dorothy enjoyed her connections with Donnelly, her friends, relatives and the members of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Following her schooling, Dorothy continued to live with her mom in Donnelly. When Dorothy was a little older, she grieved the loss of her twin babies who died at childbirth. In 1976, her son Kenneth Charles Perkins was born. She was so proud of all of his many accomplishments. She often told others of his work ethic and assisting the coaches with the Morris Tiger football team. The last gift that Dorothy made sure to give to Kenny was a new Holy Bible. Dorothy developed many positive relationships through and with her son Kenny, including special friends Norman Steiner and Sarah Larson. Dorothy’s mother Elsie died in 1991.
Dorothy moved to Morris in 1994 to Grandview Apartments, where she received support staff and attended the Stevens County D.A.C. from 1991 until she retired in 2018. She developed many caring and special relationships there. She was always proud of her work, including the water crew at the nursing home, selling beautiful handiwork, and setting tables for dinner. Dorothy was connected with the Divine House, Inc., Prairie Community Services and Stevens County Human Services for many years, where she brightened the lives of many. Dorothy moved from her apartment to a home in Morris in 2008, and later moved to Ravenwood Home in September 2011. Dorothy had a great work ethic, helping with meal preparations as she enjoyed time at her home.
Dorothy was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Donnelly. She was an expert at handiwork, teaching others to crochet, knit and made beautiful fine needlework as well. Dorothy was famous for her handmade dishcloths. It was always important to Dorothy to attend the Donnelly Threshing Bee, and everyone enjoyed her presence at many social events over the years. Dorothy always made lefse for the holidays for Kenny and others to enjoy. Dorothy enjoyed going shopping, whether it was to buy snacks or out to buy clothes, she was always ready for a shopping trip. She also like going out to eat, eggs on toast at Don’s and fried chicken anywhere, always topped her list. Dorothy will always be remembered for her sparkling blue smiling eyes.
Dorothy passed away peacefully, on Saturday, February 8, 2020, at the Ravenwood Home in Morris, Minnesota. She was 82 years old.
She is survived by her son: Kenneth Perkins of Morris and cousin: Gary (Laurie) Perkins of Port Wing, WI. She was preceded in death by her mother, Elsie.
