Dorothy Schott

Dorothy Eleanor Schott was born on March 25, 1917 in Havana, North Dakota to Adlow and Rosetta (Bauman) Parrow. She was the oldest of thirteen children. Her father was a farmer and the family moved several times as Dorothy was growing up. They lived for a time near Clinton, Minnesota then moved near Ortonville where they lived for ten years. While there, Dorothy attended the District Three Country School. The family then moved to another farm east of Clinton where she lived with her family until the age of eighteen.
Dorothy moved to Alexandria where she worked for a few years. She met and married Roy Beltz in 1936; to this union one child, Eleanor, was born. Mr. Beltz died in 1938. Dorothy moved to the Chokio area with her daughter and eventually married William Schott. To this union three children were born, William Jr., Dieanna and Richard. William also adopted Eleanor. The family resided on a farm three miles southwest of Chokio.
Dorothy was a typical farm wife working side-by-side with her husband in the fields or on the farm place while she also tended her family and home. She always had a large garden and canned many fruits and vegetables. She also did a lot of sewing.
She and William retired in 1976 when they moved to Chokio where they had built a new home. They lived there until 1997 when they moved to St. Stephen to live with their daughter, Dieanna, and her husband, Gary VanDerBeek. After five years, Dorothy and Bill moved to Grace Home. Bill passed away shortly after, Dorothy continued to reside at Grace Home, where she lived the remainder of her life.
Dorothy was a member of St. Mary’s Church of Chokio and of Christian Mothers. Over the years she was a member of several clubs including, The Friendly Eight, Bakers Homemakers, Ladies' Whist, Over 60 Club and the Chokio Senior Center. She later was a member of the St. Stephen Church for five years.
Her favorite pastime was spent baking and sewing. As a member of the Baker Homemakers’ Club, she entered items at the county fair for which she received many ribbons. Her zucchini muffins and embroidered dish towels were always blue ribbon winners.
Dorothy passed away Friday, September 11, 2009 at Grace Home in Graceville, having lived to reach the age of 92 years.
She is survived by four children: Eleanor (Vernon) Nickolauson of Ortonville, William (Dorothy) Schott of Chokio, Dieanna (Gary) VanDerBeek of Glenwood and Richard (June) Schott of Fargo, ND; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, LaClair Parrow and two sisters Gloria Peterson and Lorraine Newton. She was preceded in death by her husband: William; her parents: Adlow and Rosetta Parrow; two infant sisters; six brothers: Bernard, Marvelton, Walter, Veloris, Levern and Robert and one sister: Rosena Peterson.
Pallbearers for the service will be Dorothy’s grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Baker Homemakers’ Club. Becky Draper will serve as organist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
