Funeral services for Dorothy Zeltwanger of Hancock will be held Monday, March 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Hancock, with Pastor Julius Miller officiating. Visitation will be at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.
Dorothy Helen Berger, daughter of Gunder and Mildred (Burnett) Berger, was born March 14, 1927 in Alberta, Minnesota. She attended Alberta School until the middle of her sophomore year, and then went on to Hancock Public School, where she graduated. On October 28, 1945, Dorothy was united in marriage to Dean Zeltwanger at the Hancock Congregational Parsonage in Hancock. The couple made their home outside of Hancock, where they spent many years farming. In 1972, Dorothy became head cook at Hancock Schools and was loved by many. She left the farm in 1979 to move into Hancock, where she lived until 2009. Dorothy moved to Skyview Plaza in Morris for a few years and then moved to West Wind Village, where she resided until her passing.
Dorothy was a part of several organizations including Sons of Norway, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and Buzzin Dozen Homemakers Group. She also enjoyed gardening, bird watching, cooking, visiting with family and friends and entertaining.
Dorothy died on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at West Wind Village in Morris. She was 86 years old.
She is survived by five children: Charlene (Ben) Klimek of Eagle Bend, Kathleen (Wayne) Urbaniak of Minneapolis, Marlene (James) Bauer of Fridley, Vicki Burns of Coon Rapids and Kevin (Gloria) Zeltwanger of Hancock; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean; her parents, Gunder and Mildred; and son-in-law: Chalmer Burns.
