Duane Vosberg

October 22, 1929 — October 7, 2009

Duane George Vosberg, son of George and Rosa (Cohrs) Vosberg, was born October 22, 1929 on the family farm near Dovray, Minnesota, where he grew up and was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith. Duane attended country school in Dovray and continued his education at the University of Minnesota Agriculture School, where he participated in cross country. Following his schooling, he returned to the family farm, before enlisting in the United States Marine Corp, where he served in the Korean War. Duane received an honorable discharge and returned to Westbrook to farm. He met Margaret Bratlien in 1956 and they were married on July 19, 1957. They raised three sons together. In 1968, Duane and Margaret moved to Lowry, where they have continued to make their home since that time.




Duane was a member of the American Legion; active in the NFO and County Agronomic activities. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, bowling, golfing, spending time on the farm in the wildlife area and traveling in the semi with his son, John. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends.




Duane died on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul, having lived to reach the age of 79 years.




He is survived by his wife: Margaret Vosberg of Lowry; three sons: John (Donna) Vosberg of Lowry, Richard (Carol) Vosberg of Brooklyn Park and Gordon (Valorie) Vosberg of Monticello; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers: Dale (Mary Ann) Vosberg of Avoca, Donald (Janet) Vosberg of Dovray and Gordon (Linda) Vosberg of Westbrook and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter: Shalene and his parents.




Pallbearers for the service are: Alex Vosberg, Zach Vosberg, Heath Vosberg, Jeremy Vosberg, Steve Hildre and Loren Jansen. Honorary Pallbearers are Duane’s granddaughters: Mindy Hildre, BreeAnn Vosberg, Rachel Vosberg and Hayley Vosberg; great-grandchildren: Kassandra Vosberg, Alicia Vosberg, Brayden Hildre, Kylee Hildre, Brevin Vosberg and Rowan Vosberg and friends: Bob and Lola Olson. Ann Foley will serve as organist for the service, with Duane Cooley serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
