Earl Severance

Funeral services for Earl Severance of Herman, Minnesota will be held Friday, March 11, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, MN. Reverend Jennifer Rose will be officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services on Friday. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Herman. Military rites will be provided by the Morris American Legion, VFW and AmVets.

Earl LeRoy Severance, son of Merle and Lewellia (Voges) Severance, was born August 20, 1926 in Slayton, Minnesota. Earl started country school near their farm in Lake Wilson. In 1938, the family moved to a farm southeast of Alberta and in 1942, they moved to a farm west of Donnelly. Earl finished his schooling thru the 8th grade in Alberta, MN. On June 21, 1945, Earl was drafted into the United States Army. He served during World War II in the Pacific in the invasion of Saipan, where he also helped with the retrieval and packing up of the camps and hospitals. On December 19, 1946, he received an honorable discharge. Following his discharge, Earl returned home, where he did custom baling and winters were spent working in the Twin Cities. On November 26, 1953, he was united in marriage to Viola Stein at St. Marya�(TM)s Rectory in Chokio, Minnesota by Father Frances Hohn. In 1954, Earl and Viola purchased their farm in Macsville Township near Herman, MN, where they continued to farm and raise their family. Over the years, Earl also moved over 1000 government grain bins. Viola died on March 10, 1999 and Earl remained on the farm until the time of his death.

Earl was a member of the Morris VFW. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, an occasional trip to the casino with Brenda, doing crafts, cabinet making and dancing. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends.

Earl died on Friday, March 4, 2011 at his home in Macsville Township in Grant County, Minnesota. He lived to reach the age of 84 years.

He is survived by six children: Lila (Roger) Anderson of Alberta, Thomas (Brenda) Severance of Herman, Laurie (Tom) Cook of Rozet, WY, Linda (Dale) Bumgardner of Worthington, Jeff (Sharon) Severance of Herman and Mark (Pam) Severance of Herman; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five siblings: Arlys (George) Pederson of Donnelly, LaVonne Mathisen of St. Paul, Orville (Donna) Severance of Morris, Norma (Claire) Biggs of Kimberling City, MO and Lyle (Norma) Severance of Miles City, MT, sister-in-law: Ruth Severance and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; stepmother: Gladys Severance; one brother: James Severance and brother-in-law: Leroy Mathisen.

Pallbearers for the service are: Keith Anderson, Kyle Anderson, Terry Cook, Mike Cook, Matt Severance, TJ Severance, Tyler Severance and Eric Bumgardner. Honorary pallbearers are: Sonya Lubenow, Tara Severance, Amy Davis, Katie Bumgardner, Lisa Mitteness, Kristi Severance, Jenna Severance, Stefany Severance and Samantha Jo Severance. Darlene Hennen will serve as pianist for the service with Holly Giese serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
