The funeral for Edgar Allen Shaw, of Morris, Minnesota, formerly of Hancock, Minnesota will be held on Friday, December 21, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Hancock, with Reverend Julius Miller and Reverend Karen Schmidt-Dill officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, and on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Lakeside Cemetery, Hancock.
Edgar Allen Shaw, son of Claude and (Anna Mae Winters) Shaw was born on February 24, 1927 in Frazee, Minnesota. He grew up in Height of Land Township near Frazee, where he attended school. After his schooling, Edgar entered the United States Navy, serving his country during World War II. After being honorably discharged in August of 1946, he returned to Frazee. Edgar was united in marriage to Dorothy R. Harms on December 22, 1950 at Hamline Methodist Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. Edgar attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis for blacksmithing. The couple moved to Morris, Minnesota in 1952; where Edgar worked as a blacksmith in Hancock. After purchasing the blacksmith shop, the couple moved to Hancock in 1955. Edgar continued to own and operated the blacksmith shop until his retirement in 1992. Dorothy died on September 17, 2001. In November of 2011, Edgar moved into the Skyview Court in Morris.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Hancock, the Hancock Fire Department and the American Legion in Morris. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, playing cards and cooking.
Edgar died on Monday, December 17, 2012 at the Steven Community Medical Center in Morris. He was 85 years old.
He is survived by two sons, Alan (Betty) Shaw, Faribault, MN and Gordon (Jennifer) Shaw, Hancock, MN; one daughter, Laurie (Mike Qualls) Shaw, Centerville, GA; four grandsons, Bryan, Brandon, Andrew and Adam Shaw, all of Hancock, MN; and one brother Curtis (Ada Harrell) Shaw, Detroit Lakes, MN. Edgar was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy and parents, Claude and Anna Mae.
Pallbearers for the funeral will be Bryan Shaw, Brandon Shaw, Andrew Shaw and Adam Shaw.
