The funeral mass for Edward "Ed" Kopel of Donnelly, Minnesota will be held Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Celebrant for the mass will be Father Todd Schneider. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 4:30 at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris and for one hour prior to services Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Theresa's Cemetery near Donnelly.
Edward Henry Kopel, son of Leo and Anna (Neuroth) Kopel was born on May 19, 1925 in Donnelly Township on the family farm. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Donnelly. Ed attended country school until the 8th grade, when he began farming with his father. In 1945, he took over farming operations from his father. Ed was united in marriage to Luella Matejka on April 10, 1947 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Donnelly. To this union six children were born. Ed continued to farm until his retirement in 2000, but still enjoyed living on the family farm until the time of his death.
Ed was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Pork Producers. He enjoyed playing cards, welding, his seed corn business and especially visiting with family and friends.
Ed died on Friday, February 12, 2016 at his home. He was 90 years old.
He is survived by his wife: Luella Kopel of Donnelly; five children: Lester (Sandy) Kopel of Donnelly, Ron (Sandy) Kopel of Glenwood, Mike (Joanie) Kopel of Donnelly, Pat (Chuck) Dingman of Morris and Carol (Scott) Henderson of Chico, CA; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and one sister: MaryAnn Vipond of Norcross. He is preceded in death by one son: Charles Kopel; his parents; three brothers: Lawrence, Walter and Joseph Kopel; and four sisters: Betty Riley, Edna Marty, Rita Schultz and Rosie Sprouls.
