Funeral services for Elizabeth (Betty) Hoyer will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Celebrant for the service will be Father Todd Schneider. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:00 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Morris.
Elizabeth Mae Detviler was born on May 4, 1924 on a beautiful spring day at the family farm near Hancock MN. Elizabeth was the 5th child born to Russell and Margaret (Wheeler) Detviler. Growing up in the Hancock area she attended country school and St. Mary's in Morris. On May 10, 1944 she was united in marriage to Harris (Tookie) Hoyer. As a busy mother of nine children she spent her days caring for them and her home. She was a great baker, known for her pies, cookies and bars. Her love of gardening was evident in her beautiful flower garden and the many house plants that filled her home. A lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary she was active for many years. Always proud of her Irish heritage she loved to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. A trip to the casino was always enjoyed by Betty. For many years she worked with Tookie at Willie's Red Owl.
Betty died peacefully on January 19, 2017 at St. Mary's Care Center, Winsted MN surrounded by family. She lived to 92 years.
Preceded in death by her husband (of 71 years), Tookie in 2015; her parents, Russell and Margaret; her siblings, Rosalys Maloney, Mary Ellen Gallis, Robert Detviler, Thomas Detviler and their spouses.
Betty was a loving mother to her nine children and is survived by them. Mary Jane (Doug) VanKempen, Morris, Carol (Jerry) Bragg, Fort Collins, CO, Margaret (Dan) Kieffer, Litchfield, Russell Hoyer, Morris, Alisa (Joe) Tielke, Yankton, SD, Fran Cin, Morris, Marcy (Bob) Athey, Big Stone City, SD, Suzy (Randy) Thymian, Morris and Garrett (Oom) Hoyer, Morris. A beloved grandmother of 24 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Also survived by her husband's sister, Elna Hill and his brothers, Lloyd, Louis (Doris) and Duane (Karen) Hoyer.
