Ellen Bonk

The funeral service for Ellen W. Bonk, of Starbuck, Minnesota will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, with Reverend Paul Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday one hour prior to the service at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home. Burial will be on Monday, February 6, at 10:00 a.m. at the Appleton City Cemetery, Appleton, Minnesota.

Ellen Wilhelmine Petrick, daughter of Edward and Louise (Koosman) Petrick was born on April 24, 1916 in Fairfield Township, near Appleton, Minnesota. She grew up on the Petrick Farm in Fairfield Township. Ellen went to church and grade school at the Fairfield Lutheran church and school which were located on the Petrick farm property. She graduated from high school in Hingham, Montana. Ellen was united in marriage to Frank T. Bonk in April of 1940 at Holloway, Minnesota; the couple made their home in Swift County, Minnesota. Frank died on November 25, 1959. Ellen continued to live in Minnesota, and became a resident at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck in July of 2000.

She was an active member of Fron Lutheran Church, where she served on the Women's Group. Ellen also volunteered at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home, was a member of a sewing club, and birthday club. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and playing Bridge.

Ellen died on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home at Starbuck. She was 95 years old.

She is survived by eight children: Carol (Bill) Korn, Eau Claire, WI, Eunice (John) Voorhees, Dellwood, MN, Roger Bonk, Madera, CA, Donna Nelson, Starbuck, MN, Connie Duncan, Chandler, AZ, Linda (Bob) Maughan, Denton, TX, Janet (Gregg) Pederson, Castle Rock, CO, Marilyn (David) Garcia, Scottsdale, AZ; fifteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, an infant daughter, Ruth Ann, a granddaughter, Lara Voorhees, her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers for the funeral will be Bill Korn, John Voorhees, Robert Maughan and Gregg Pederson. Honorary pallbearers will be David Korn, Debra (Korn) Fuglestad, Andrew Voorhees, Amanda Bonk, Michael Bonk, Ricky Beveridge, Nicole Beveridge, Jenna Duncan, Abbie Duncan, Erin (Maughan) Aschman, John Pederson, Thomas Pederson, Shannon Garcia, Crystal Garcia and Gabriel Garcia. Monica Gosseling will be organist and Joy Erdman will be soloist for the service.

Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
