Funeral services for Elmer Henry Madison of Chokio will be held Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Morris, Minnesota. Reverend Arthur Montgomery will be officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Elmer Henry Madison was born in Rockwood Township in Wadena County on November 25, 1920 to Henry and Marie Madison. He attended Alberta country school grades 1 thru 8. He was one of five children. The family farmed at Sebeka and Donnelly from 1935 to 1941. Elmer married Gladys Nelson on April 5, 1944 and lived in Morris. They had a son, Gordon and daughters, Trudy and Sylvia. In early years, Elmer worked for various farmers and then worked for West Central Experiment Station at Morris for 37A½ years, retiring March 23, 1983. He married Frieda Lang on September 14, 1991 and lived in Chokio.
After retirement Elmer did a lot of house painting and enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, events at the Chokio Senior Center, playing cards, watching the Minnesota Twins, taking bus trips and calls and visits from his family.
Elmer died on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at West Wind Village in Morris, MN, where he had resided the past three weeks. He lived to reach the age of 90 years.
He is survived by his daughters: Trudy (Mark) Harig of Albert Lea and Sylvia (Don) Raasch of New London; grandchildren: Rebecca (Tony) Joffer of Sioux Falls, SD, Randy Harig (Nikki Everett) of Albert Lea and Sara (Nick) Schulz of Willmar; five great-grandchildren: Addison Rose Harig, Garrett, Joshua, Lucas and Paige Everett all of Albert Lea; sister: Ida Lawson of Morris; several sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Elmer was preceded in death by son: Gordon Madison in 1946; wife: Gladys in 1982; wife: Frieda in 2004; his parents; brothers: Ed and Art and sister: Irene.
Pallbearers for the service are all of Elmera�(TM)s family and friends. Deb Mahoney will serve as pianist for the service with Ken Hodgson serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
