Elmer Meierding

June 9, 1941 — July 25, 2009

Elmer Louis Meierding Jr., son of Elmer Sr. and Elsie (Ohnesorge) Meierding, was born June 9, 1941, at his parent’s home in Clements, Minnesota where he grew up and was baptized at Morgan Methodist Church and confirmed at New Avon Methodist Church. Elmer attended Clements grade school and then 7 – 10 grades attended Redwood Falls, MN. Elmer spent 11-12 grades at West Central School of Agriculture in Morris. Following his schooling he began farming with his father. On June 10, 1961, he was united in marriage to Kathy Barsness at Our Redeemers Lutheran Church in Hancock. To this union five children were born. Elmer continued farming and doing drywall work until retiring.




Elmer enjoyed hunting and fishing, and always had a smile on his face. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandkids.




Elmer died on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at his home in rural Hancock, having lived to reach the age of 68 years.




He is survived by his wife: Kathy Meierding of Hancock; two sons: Jerry (Cyndy) Meierding of Minneota and Terry (Angela) Meierding of Hancock; two daughters: Sherry (Steve) Wink of Aitkin and Melissa Klima of Savage; 15 grandchildren: Ben and Lucas Wink, Justin (Samanthia) Danenberg, Karli Meierding, Sophia Meierding, Jeffrey and Jacob Horner, Devin Meierding,  Kelli Doyle-Meierding, Alexa Meierding, Rylan Meierding, Jace Meierding, Breeanna Flood, Cameron Klima, Kayla Klima; one great-grandchild: Skyler Renee Danenberg; two sisters: Angie (Joseph) Meighen of Burnsville and Rosella (Roger) Loxtercamp of Rogers  and one brother: Tim (Dawn) Meierding of Southshore. He was preceded in death by one daughter: Debby Kay Meierding; his parents and grandparents.




Honorary Pallbearers for the service will be Elmer’s grandsons: Justin Danenberg, Ben Wink, Luke Wink, Devin Meierding, Cameron Klima, Rylan Meierding, Jace Meierding, Jeffrey Horner and Jacob Horner and Elmer’s nephews: Randy Stigen, Jarrod Peterson and Jim Boggess. Elna Smith will serve as pianist for the service with Gary Smith serving as soloist. The Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
