Elsie Ella Haack, daughter of Wilhelm and Sophie (Klukas) Haack, was born December 8, 1909 in Rock Lake Township in Lyon County, Minnesota. She was baptized into the Christian Church and Confirmed on May 27, 1923 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Balaton, Minnesota. Elsie attended and graduated from Springfield High School in 1926. On October 2, 1930, she was united in marriage to Harold Meyer in Wabasso, MN. The couple made their home in Redwood County, where they farmed until 1941, when they moved to rural Starbuck. In 1977, they retired from farming and moved into Starbuck. Harold died on October 25, 1984 and Elsie has continued to live in Starbuck since that time.
Elsie was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she belonged to the women of ELCA; she was also a member of the Friendly Garden Club, the Master Gardener's Club, the Homemakers Group and served as a 4-H Leader. She enjoyed growing flowers, reading, cooking desserts, singing and listening to music. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family.
Elsie died on Tuesday, September 6, 2005, at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, having lived to reach the age of 95 years.
She is survived by four children: Norman (Joyce) Meyer of Morris, Margaret Lawson of LeSueur, Howard (Vicki) Meyer of Corvallis, OR and Richard (Nedra) Meyer of Stillwater; daughter-in-law: Karen Meyer of Marshall; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and one sister: Marie Patchin of Santa Rosa, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband; her son: Donald Meyer; her parents; six brothers, three sisters and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers for the service are: Robert Meyer, Dennis Lawson, Daniel Meyer, Geoffrey Moffat, James Moffat and Bradley Lawson. Honorary pallbearers are all of Elsie?s friends. Amy Rooney will serve as organist for the service with Jere Solvie serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
