Funeral services for Elvera Marquart of Montevideo, Minnesota will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo, MN, with Reverend Keith Brustuen officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Fairfield Township.
Elvera J Hansen, daughter of Arthur and Alice (Giese) Hansen, was born March 30, 1928 in Lakeshore Township, Lac Qui Parle County, Minnesota. Elvera was baptized on April 29, 1928 and confirmed on May 17, 1942 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Bellingham, Minnesota. She was raised on a farm south of Louisburg, Minnesota, where she attended elementary school at District 92 in Louisburg and then Appleton High School, graduating with the class of 1946. After high school, Elvera moved to Minneapolis where she attended the Minneapolis Swedish Hospital School of Nursing, where she earned her Registered Nurse Degree in 1949. She worked as an RN at the Hennepin County Medical Center, the Glencoe Hospital until 1952, when she moved back to Appleton. Elvera then worked as an office nurse at the Kaufman-Rorem Clinic. On September 24, 1955, Elvera was united in marriage to Byron Marquart at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Following their marriage, they made their home on a farm in Fairfield Township; where they began farming and raised their family. Byron preceded Elvera in death on December 14, 2011. After his death in the spring of 2012, she moved into Montevideo to be closer to family. For the last three years, she made her home at Brookside Senior Living, where she enjoyed the friendships that she made with the other residents.
During her married life, Elvera was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfield Township where she held various offices in the Dorcus Guild and the Minnesota LWML. After her move to Montevideo, she transferred her membership to St. Paul Lutheran Church. In earlier years, she taught Sunday school, receiving an award for over 20 years of teaching. Elvera had several hobbies that included: gardening, canning, sewing - making most of her and her families’ clothing; embroidering, quilting for World Relief, doing custom patchwork; knitting – stocking caps by the hundreds and keeping her yard cleaned up. She also had several contributions and recipes in the Senior Perspective over the years. Mostly, Elvera cherished the time that she was able to spend with her family and friends.
Elvera died on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital in Montevideo, Minnesota. She lived to 89 years.
She is survived by her children: Carol (Robert) Peters of Manitoba, Canada, Judy (David) Johnson of Franklin and Montevideo, Dori Bechtle (Kelly Peck) of Montevideo, Jill (Randy) Augustin of Willmar and Jon (Laura) Marquart of Appleton; six grandchildren: Pamela (Allen) Jacobson, Donny (Kate) Bechtle, Sara (Geoff) Carlson, Patti Marquart (Chris Cates), Brendan (Taylor) Peters and Randy Marquart; three great-grandsons: Jacob Carlson, Alexander Jacobson and Caden Jacobson; two brothers: Alan Hansen of Louisburg and Robert (Janice) Hansen of Hazel Run; one sister: Jean Wiegers of Montevideo and one brother-in-law, Gary (Rusty) Marquart of Hancock. She was preceded in death by her husband: Byron; her parents: Arthur and Alice Hansen; sisters-in-law: Marion Pugh, Ada Mae Mesenbrink and Ruth Hansen.
Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
