Funeral services for Elvira Ida Pieske of Cyrus will be held Monday, June 20, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus. Reverend John R. Smith will be officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be at Cyrus South Cemetery, rural Cyrus.
Elvira Ida Pieske, daughter of Gotlib and Emma (Hoppe) Mude, was born October 18, 1917 in Brown County, Minnesota where she grew up and received her schooling. She was also baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith while living in Brown County. On October 17, 1940, she was united in marriage to Merritt Earl Pieske. The couple lived in Sanborn until 1949, when they moved to the Cyrus, Minnesota area, where they farmed and raised their sons. In 1975, Elvira and Merritt retired and moved into Cyrus. Merritt died on June 12, 2007. Following his death, Elvira continued to live in Cyrus, and most recently has resided at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, MN.
Elvira was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus. Elvira really enjoyed quilting, crocheting, fishing and following the Minnesota Twins and Timberwolves. After moving to Cyrus, she spent most of her time watching her grandchildren grow and attending all of their activities. She also enjoyed playing cards and going to the casino. Elviraa�(TM)s grandchildren were her pride and joy and she will be deeply missed by all of them.
Elvira died on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, MN, having lived to reach the age of 93 years.
She was survived by her sons: Roger (Jan) Pieske of Cyrus and Dennis (Vicki) Pieske of Starbuck; four grandchildren: Paula (Tony) Amborn and their children, McKenna and Braeden, Greg Pieske (and friend Caryn Riebe), Staci (Matt) Butler and their children, Landon, Kaden and Logan and Nathan Pieske; sisters-in-law: Rosella Mude of Morton, Verna Mude of Springfield and Lorraine Pieske of Lamberton and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents and eight brothers.
Pallbearers for the service are: Tony Amborn, Paula Amborn, Greg Pieske, Caryn Riebe, Matt Butler, Staci Butler and Nathan Pieske. Honorary pallbearers are the staff at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home. Nola Smith will serve as organist for the service, with Karl Retzlaff serving as pianist and Sheryle Dahl as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
