Memorial services for Elwood Johnson of Morris formerly of Chokio, MN will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, MN, with Reverend Gloria Anderson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Chokio Lutheran Cemetery, near Chokio. Military honors provided by the Chokio American Legion Post 629.
Elwood Ray Johnson, son of Ray and Evelyn (Houck) Johnson was born June 28, 1932 in Everglade Township in Stevens County, Minnesota. He was baptized as an infant at United Methodist Church in Chokio and Confirmed and became a member of United Methodist Church. Woody began his schooling at Country School Districts 18 and 30. He later attended and graduated from Chokio High School. Following his schooling, Woody served in the United States Army from September, 1952 to September, 1954. During that time from April, 1953 to May, 1954 he served in the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, Woody returned to Chokio, where he farmed, until his retirement.
Woody enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, collecting guns and antique tractors, mostly “the red kind”. Woody was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion, where he received his 64 years as a member pin.
Woody died on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Skyview Plaza in Morris, MN. He lived to 85 years.
He is survived by his siblings: Milo (Myra) Johnson of Chokio, Marie Blanchard of Motley and Lonnie (Martha) Johnson of Orland Park, IL; sister-in-law: Rose Johnson of Sterling Heights, MI; aunt: Leone Lubben of Wheaton and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings: Betty Johnson, Melvin Johnson and Wesley (Audrey) Johnson; niece: Jill Ayers; grandparents: Emory and Bertha Davidson, Victor and Carolina Johnson and George Houck and brother-in-law: Rev. Lewis Blanchard.
Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
