Emma Asmus

Funeral services for Emma Asmus of Herman, Minnesota will be held Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman, MN. Reverend David Hanssen will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Herman.

Emma Katherine Raths, was born the sixth child of James and Catherine (Goergen) Raths on August 6, 1917. She lived by Chokio, Norcross and Herman all of her life. She was united in marriage to Leslie E. Asmus on July 19, 1937. The couple made their home on a farm near Herman. Emma was a farm wife, who enjoyed the farm, her animals and chickens, which she raised each year for the 4th of July fryers.

Emma was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman. She loved sewing with the ladies of Priscilla Circle, making quilt tops, baby blankets, afghans and dollies. Her favorite activity was mowing the lawn and making it look perfect. She mowed until the age of 95 years. Emma loved playing cards at the Pulman House, bingo and going to the Casino on occasion. No one made pie crust better than Em.

Emma died on Monday, December 1, 2014 at Open Arms Senior Foster Care in Hoffman, MN. She lived to the age of 97.

She is survived by her children: Hazel Kron (special friend: Orlyn Ristow) of Herman and Daniel (Pam) Asmus of Valley Center, CA; three grandchildren: Randy (Kim) Kron of East Bethel, Susan (Scott) Schantzen of Lindstrom and Craig (Claudia) Kron of Coon Rapids; five great-grandchildren: Korey (Kendra) Kron, Jennifer (Scott) Kasal, Ronny (Olivia) Coleman, Dustin Kron and Autumn Rose Kron and three great-great-grandchildren: Chase Kasal, Carter Kasal and Mason Coleman; one sister: Elsie Lesmeister of Morris and one brother: Rudy Raths of Alexandria. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers: Emil, Marcelles and Leo and sisters: Margaret and Leona.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to Lakeland Hospice. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
