Erling Brevig

Erling Stoa Brevig, son of Joseph and Christie (Stoa) Brevig, was born March 31, 1922 in Starbuck, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Reverend G. O. Forde. He attended and graduated from Starbuck High School. Following his schooling he worked on the farm with this father and brother. On February 5, 1972, he was united in marriage to Agnes Soltvig. Following their marriage, the couple continued to farm, until their retirement. Agnes died on December 22, 1989. On June 23, 1991, he was united in marriage to Lavonne Hansen. Erling and Lavanne have continued to live in Starbuck since that time.
Erling was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Starbuck, where he served on various boards and activities. He also served on the Minnewaska Lutheran Home Board for many years. He was an avid bowler, reader and cribbage player. Erling enjoyed baseball; especially the Minnesota Twins and he loved the many years he farmed. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends.
Erling died on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at the Glacial Ridge Health Systems in Glenwood, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 87 years.
He is survived by his wife: Lavonne Brevig of Starbuck; two step-sons: Jorgen (Sharon) Hansen of St. Michael and Marvin (Jody) Hansen of Spicer; one step-daughter: Ardace (Dick) Rolland of Lyndstrom; two brothers: Ralph (Dolores) Brevig of Phoenix, AZ and Kenneth Brevig of Starbuck; one sister: Sylvia (Ray) Brown of Starbuck; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife; his parents and sister-in-law: Dorothy Brevig.
Pallbearers for the service are: Terry Brown, Stephen Brevig, Brian Brevig, Lonnie Koloski, Tom Johnshoy and Todd Johnshoy. Dee Syverson will serve as organist for the service with Wayne Wood serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
