Ernest Eugene King, son of Jay and Freda (Harm) King, was born March 25, 1925 in Correctionville, Iowa. As a child Ernie helped his family in the garden and as a newspaper carrier. Ernie graduated from Correctionville High School in 1943 and worked at various jobs before joining the United States Army in 1946. He served in World War II, where he was with the O.S.S, now known as the C.I.A, where he was an Army Counter Intelligence Agent. He was stationed in the Philippines and was involved in criminal and civil investigations. He received an honorable discharge on September 22, 1947. Following his discharge, he moved to Sioux City, Iowa, where he worked at the Armour Packing Plant from 1948 to 1958. On October 5, 1952, he was united in marriage to Betty Edson. The couple made their home in Sioux City, Iowa until 1958, when they moved to Morris. Ernie then went to work for the Agriculture Research Station as a research Engineer until 1985, when he retired. Betty died in January, 1961. Ernest was united in marriage to Thayis Boots in 1963.
Ernest was a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed bowling, where he was secretary for the Wednesday League. He also enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, gardening and playing pranks and practical jokes on people. He also raised horses and dogs.
Ernest died on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 82 years.
He is survived by children: Robert King of Morris, Mary King Thielke (friend: Dan Bursaw) of Madison, Rodney King of Morris, David (Danielle) Boots of Starbuck, Devin Boots of San Diego, CA, Lynn (Lori) Boots of Morris and Joe (Jean) Boots of Morris; 12 grandchildren: Regina Koenen, Roderic Thielke, Rebecka Peterman, Sean Boots, Wendy McCrory, James Boots, Danny Boots, Jeff Boots, Angela Smith, Jasmine Boots, Jacqueline Boots and Jacob Boots; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Everett (Ruby) King of Correctionville, IA, Ellis (Alice) King of Sioux City, IA and Elmer (Dorothy) King of Palmer Lake, CO and two sisters-in-law: Mildred (Mrs. Emmett) King of Strom Lake, IA and Elsie (Mrs. Earl) King of Correctionville, IA. He was preceded in death by his wife: Betty King; one daughter: Nancy King; one son: Lonnie Boots; one grandson: David Paul Boots; two brothers: Emmett and Earl King and one sister and brother-in-law: Elaine and Jerry Countryman.
Pallbearers for the service are: Jaimey Koenen, Brian Petermann, Sean Boots, Roderic Thielke, James Boots, Lowell Ness and Gary Ness. Honorary pallbearers are all of Ernie?s grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his brothers. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
