Esther Koehl

Esther Irene Pfister was born at Fort Scott, Kansas on May 21, 1915 to Jacob and Anna (Huber) Pfister. She attended Center School through 8th grade, stayed home one year before attending and eventually graduating from Fort Scott High School. Following her high school graduation, she worked as a secretary at the Western Insurance Company in Fort Scott. She repented and was baptized as a young lady and became a member of the Apostolic Christian Church. On March 5, 1939, she was united in marriage to Charles Reuben Koehl. To this union five children were born. The couple lived and farmed in Moore Township, near Hancock their entire married life. Charles died on March 11, 1985. Esther continued to live on the farm until October, 1999, when she moved to Skyview Court in Morris. She resided there until October of 2005, when she moved to the West Wind Village in Morris.
Esther enjoyed flowers, quilting, fishing and mostly spending time with her children and grandchildren. Above all, she loved the Lord and He was the center of her life.
Esther died on Sunday, March 26, 2006 at the West Wind Village in Morris, at the age of 90, with her family at her bedside.
She is survived by her five children: Kenneth (Karen) Koehl of Hancock, Harvey (Wilda) Koehl of Morris, Shirley (Dennis) Kellenberger of Steen, MN, Dale (Lili) Koehl of Bloomington, IL and Randy (Shirley) Koehl of Hancock; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and one sister: Dorothy (Wayne) Schmidgall of Morris. She was preceded in death by her husband; one granddaughter: Peggy Sue Koehl; one grandson: Jerry Dean Nohl; her parents and two sisters: Eunice Koehl and Ruth Sinn.
Pallbearers for the service are: Byron Koehl, Kevin Koehl, Eric Koehl, Lane Koehl, Russ Koehl, Benji Kellenberger, Barry Koehl, Mitchell Koehl and Marty Koehl. The Apostolic Christian Church Choir will provide special music for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
The family prefers memorials to the SCMC Courage Cottage or the West Wind Village in Morris.
