The funeral for Esther Irene Wevley, of Morris, Minnesota will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Morris, with Reverend Dave Christenson officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 and a time of sharing to follow at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be at the Summit Cemetery, Morris.
Esther Irene Thompson, daughter of Elmer and Irene (Long) Thompson was born on January 30, 1933 on the family farm in Grant County, Minnesota. She attended elementary school in Morris through the 4th grade, District #5 Country School in the 5th grade and Cyrus in the 6th, before attending Alberta High School. Esther worked through her school years caring for elderly in Morris, waitressing at the Sugar Bowl and also on the family farm raising large gardens. Esther met Raymond Wevley at a dance in Alberta. She married Ray on December 13, 1951 at the First Lutheran Church in Morris. The couple made their home in Morris area. Esther worked at the egg plant in Donnelly for many years as well as caring for their children at home. In her spare time, Esther would put her green thumb taking care of her beautiful gardens. She also loved decorating the farm with Ray around the holidays, especially hanging the lights. Ray died on October 27, 2004. Esther continued to live on the farm until moving into Morris in 2009.
Esther was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Morris. She enjoyed baking, canning, painting, sewing, crazy quilting, eggshell art, crocheting and especially spending time with her grandchildren.
Esther died on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at her son's home near Starbuck. She was 82 years old.
She is survived by seven children: Dale Wevley, Hagerman, NM, Ronald (Sue) Wevley, Donnelly, MN, Orval (Linda) Wevley, Garfield, MN, Curtis (Marie) Wevley, Starbuck, MN, Karen (Jon) Thielke, Hancock, MN, Kevin (Lori) Wevley, Morris, MN and Sharon (Ray) Bruggman, Alexandria, MN; seventeen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Esther was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Glenn, her parents, four brothers, Harvey, Kenneth, Earl and Lyle and five sisters, Joyce Kaehler, Marion Oberg, Adeline Mix, Donna Jenkins and Harriet Hertel.
