Eugene "Sam" Feodore Logan, son of Frank and Anna (Deutsch) was born February 13, 1926 in Donnelly, MN where he grew up and attended country school. Sam enjoyed playing cards, nice cars, hunting, and long drives in the country looking at the crops and wildlife, coffee with his friends at various places, fishing and road trips out West with Ellie. He was also known as a prankster and could tell some pretty good jokes! Sam loved visits from his kids and grandchildren, and especially watching and teasing the great-grandchildren. He so appreciated and enjoyed the many visits from his dear friend, Bob Kleespies.
Sam met Ellie at the Donnelly Dance Hall; they were united in marriage on November 6, 1945 and were married for 67 years. The couple made their home on a farm near Morris for 13 years prior to moving to Alberta. They bought and operated the Alberta Grocery Store for many years while raising their 7 children. After living in Alberta for 39 years they moved to Chokio. Ellie died on February 2, 2013 and Sam had missed her immensely!
Sam worked in various fields during his lifetime; farming, MN Valley road construction, and Morris Blacktop, but his greatest enjoyment was when he started his own cattle broker business. He loved driving out to the Dakotas, Montana, and Wyoming looking for the best cattle he could find for cattle farms around the country and the University of MN.
Sam passed away on Saturday afternoon, March 8, 2014 at Lakewood Health Systems Care Facility in Staples, MN, having reached the age of 88.
Sam will be remembered lovingly by his family and close friends. He is survived by seven children: James (LuAine) Logan, Breezy Point, MN; Judy (Gary) Heltemes, Cross Lake, MN; Jeanne (Steve) Thompson, Plymouth, MN; John (special friend Joslin Anderson) Logan, Mankato, MN; Jan Logan, St. Cloud, MN; JoAnn (Jon Rohs) Brus, Plymouth, MN; Jeri Lynn (Dean) Erickson, Chokio, MN; 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Sam is preceded in death by his wife Eleanor; his parents Frank and Anna; two sisters, Marie Selk and Lucille Olson; five brothers, William, Robert, Francis, Kenneth and Richard Logan.
And in Sam's words, "Give 'er hell while you can!!"
