Memorial services for Eunice Redfield, of Morris, Minnesota, will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Morris Evangelical Free Church with a visitation beginning one hour prior to the services. Pastor Hector Franco will be officiating. Burial will be at Eidskog Cemetery, rural Ortonville, Minnesota at a later date.
Eunice Amelia Hanson was born on April 28, 1936, in Ortonville, Minnesota to Hans and Pauline (Anderson) Hanson. She was raised with her sisters in rural Otrey Township, near Odessa, Minnesota. Eunice was baptized and confirmed at Eidskog Lutheran Church and received her education at country school until the 8th grade and then Ortonville High School, graduating as the Salutatorian with the class of 1954. Following high school, Eunice continued her education in Minneapolis and then worked as an X-Ray technician at the Brookings, South Dakota hospital for more than a year. While at the Big Stone County Fair, Eunice was introduced to Wally Redfield, the two began dating and were married on March 2, 1957, at Eidskog Lutheran Church. They made their home on various farm sites in Big Stone County and welcomed three sons to their family. In 1966, wanting to see a different part of the country, they made the move to Washington for one year. They returned to Big Stone County until 1973 when they moved to a farm west of Morris, Minnesota for 11 years. The family made their home in Hancock, Wolf Lake, and in 2000, they moved back to Morris. In July of 2021, Eunice became a resident of West Wind Village where she continued to live until the time of her death.
Eunice is a member of the Morris Evangelical Free Church, she served on various groups throughout the years and taught Sunday School. In her younger years, she enjoyed singing with her sisters and being involved in 4-H. Eunice was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and was always willing to prepare lefse, krumkake, and all of the many treats for family and friends. She enjoyed several adventures with her sisters over the years and loved people! She was always busy on the farm, making sure everyone and everything was taken care of. Eunice loved to keep a clean house, and was content with her simple, good life. A few of her other hobbies include: gardening, cooking, baking, and sewing.
Eunice died on Monday, October 9, 2023, at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris. She was 87 years old.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Wally of Morris; sons: Blake (DeAnn) of Sauk Rapids, Corey (Cindy) of Minnetonka, and Lance (Cathy) of Charlotte, North Carolina; six grandchildren: David, Amy, Jenna, Austin, Ryan, and Jordan; two great-grandchildren: Oliver and Sullivan; sisters: Vivian Janssen of Ortonville, Mardis Doll of Bloomington, and Judith Lindman of Bloomington; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
