Memorial services for Evelyn Bolluyt of Hancock, MN will be held Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Hancock Christian Reformed Church in Hancock, with Reverend Harrison Newhouse officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church and for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.
Evelyn Thelma De Jager, daughter of Steve and Nellie (LaFluer) De Jager, was born November 4, 1928 in Orange City, Iowa. She was baptized in the Christian Reformed Church in Hawarden, Iowa. Evelyn’s family lived in Iowa and South Dakota, before settling in Hancock, Minnesota, where she attended Hancock Public Schools. On December 4, 1946 she was united in marriage to Nicholas Bolluyt at the Hancock Christian Reformed Church by Rev. C.L. VanZee. The family continued to live in Hancock until 1969, when they moved to Chino, California, where Evelyn was a homemaker and seamstress. In 1977, they returned to the Hancock Area. In 2000, Evelyn found the job that became the job of her life, she worked as a foster grandma in the Starbuck Elementary School for four years and then in the Morris Elementary School, until she retired in 2009.
Evelyn was a member of Hancock Christian Reformed School Church, where she taught Sunday school, Bible school and Calvinettes. She attended Bible Study, served on the Library Board and made floral arrangements for Sunday services. She enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting, embroidery and making costumes for the school plays. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Evelyn died on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, MN. She was 89 years old.
She is survived by her children: Jerry (Rita) Bolluyt of Hancock, Don (Lori) Bolluyt of Hancock, Leanne (Ron) Harmsen of Hancock and Florida, Pam Foss (Bob Brooks) of Elbow Lake and Shirley (Darrell) Uhden of Kensington; one brother: Darrell (Dorothy) De Jager of Starbuck; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 18 nieces and nephews; and all the children in Starbuck and Morris Elementary who called her Gramma B. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick; children: Debra and Steven; brother: Gary De Jager; sisters: Ann DeGier and Shirley De Jager; sister-in-law: Alice De Jager and brother-in-law: John DeGier.
