Funeral services for Evelyn Finstad of Starbuck, MN will be held Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Indherred Lutheran Church near Starbuck. Reverend Paul Johnson will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Evelyn Jeanette Rosten, daughter of John and Julia (Swenson) Rosten, was born August 27, 1923 in Glenwood, Minnesota, where she grew up and attended country school. She was baptized and confirmed at Indherred Lutheran Church near Starbuck. On September 18, 1954, she was united in marriage to Gordon Finstad at Indherred Lutheran Church. For the next eight years the couple lived on a farm north of Starbuck, before moving into Starbuck. Evelyn worked as a cook for over 20 years at the Starbuck Schools. Evelyn continued to live in Starbuck, entering the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in the fall of 2011, where she lived until the time of her death.
Evelyn was a lifetime member of Indherred Lutheran Church, where she was active with the ladies aide and the quilting group. She was also a 4-H Leader and a VFW Auxiliary member. She enjoyed baking and cooking for family and friends; needlework, playing cards and visiting friends at the Minnewaska Apartments. Evelyn enjoyed family gatherings, where she could spend time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Evelyn died on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, MN, having lived to reach the age of 89 years. She will be remembered for her love of children and her kind and generous spirit.
Evelyn is survived by one son: Paul (Debbie) Finstad of Fargo, ND: one daughter; LouAnn (Ted) Schmidt of River Falls, WI: son-in-law; Dennis DeGier: seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren: Erica (Justin), Tiffany, Finley, Reid Kindem; Jenny (Jason) , Keagen Kratcha; Lindsey (Doug), Addison Hazen; Christopher (Lindsay) Schmidt; Sara (Tony), Brayden, Kaia DePaolo, Shelly (Brian), Ava, Ashlyn, Amya Wrobel and Jeff (Casey) DeGier: three sisters; June Nicholson of Shoreview, Helen Hagen of Glenwood and Timmie (Peder) Baukol of Starbuck: sisters-in-law; Marilyn Halverson of St. Cloud, Betty Rosten of Glenwood and Grace Rosten of Starbuck: several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: her parents: one daughter; Mary DeGier: one sister; Olava Rosten and two brothers; Edwin and Norman Rosten: brothers-in-law; Art Finstad, Virgil Hagen, Harold Nicholson, and Gordon Moe: sisters-in-law; Mildred Finstad and Dorothy Moe.
