Memorial services for Evelyn Juergensen of Morris, MN will be held Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at 11:00 AM at First Lutheran Church in Morris. Reverend Arthur Montgomery will be officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM with a prayer service at 7:30 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Evelyn LaVerne Anderson, daughter of Fred and Grace (White) Anderson, was born August 12, 1926 in Bremerton, Washington, where she grew up and graduated from Bremerton High School. After completing 11th grade, Evelyn worked as a courier and telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company supporting the war efforts. On November 4, 1945, she was united in marriage to Clarence Juergensen in Bremerton, WA. The couple returned to Stevens County, where they farmed in Framnas Township and raised their four children. In 1972, they opened "Eva�(TM)s Bait, Tackle, Tropical Fish and Ceramics". She ran the business until 1982, when they semi-retired and began working at First Lutheran Church as co-custodians. For several years, Clarence and Ev wintered in Needles, California, before moving there in 2000. While in California they were assistant caretakers at the Calizona RV Park. In November, 2008, they returned to Morris and have made their home at Skyview Plaza since January 2010.
Evelyn was a member of First Lutheran Church, where she was active in the WELCA, and she taught Sunday school and Confirmation classes for children with special needs. Ev belonged to various boards over the years: ARC; Advisor Board for West Central Industries; Governora�(TM)s Advisory Council for Mental Retardation; Life member of American Legion, where she served as 7th District President of the American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary. Ev enjoyed cooking, painting, ceramics, bead and needle work and playing cards. She was happiest when she was feeding large groups. An amazing cook, she assisted with numerous fundraisers, many of which were Hawaiian Luaua�(TM)s for the American Legion and First Lutheran Church.
Evelyn died on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, MN, having lived to reach the age of 84 years.
She is survived by her husband: Clarence Juergensen of Morris; one daughter: Ruth (Steven) Smith of Pennock; one son: Jay (Judy) Juergensen of Morris; four grandchildren: Jayme (Sean) Boots, Jennifer (Darwin) Thorpe, Trisha Smith and Steven Smith; six great-grandchildren and two brothers: Lowell (Sandy) Anderson of Cedarville, CO and Arden (Nancy) Anderson of Cedar. She was preceded in death by two sons: Fred and Jerry Juergensen; one granddaughter: Amy Jo Juergensen and her parents.
Deb Mahoney will serve as organist for the service with Sharon Martin serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
