Evelyn Kussatz

Evelyn Caroline Martha Kroening, daughter of Emil and Margaretha (Puchta) Kroening, was born September 6, 1909 at Sanborn, Minnesota. Evelyn, who was her parent's first-born, was honored when they chose her middle names to include the names of her grandmothers: Caroline Pietsch Kroening and Martha Lipkow Puchta. Evelyn was baptized at Christ Lutheran Church near Sanborn. She moved with her family to Stevens County in 1920. She attended country school at District #60 and in Alberta, MN. Evelyn was confirmed by Gustav A. Pilgrim in 1924 at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morris. Following her schooling, she helped at home and later did various other work. On March 30, 1936, she was united in marriage to Leonard "Red" Kussatz at Peace Lutheran Church Parsonage. The couple made their home in Scott Township for 43 years, where they farmed and raised their children. In 1973, they retired from farming and moved into Morris. Leonard died in July of 1987. In 1990, Evelyn moved to West Central Homes and later to West Wind Village, where she continued to live until the time of her death.





Evelyn was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Morris. She also belonged to the Peace Lutheran Ladies Aid and Homemakers Club. She was active in establishing the DAC in Morris. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening and dancing. Above all, she was very devoted to her family.





Evelyn passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 6, 2007 at West Wind Village in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 97 years.





She is survived by: one son: Raymond (Pat) Kussatz of Morris; two daughters: Bonnie (Bill) Pickens of San Diego, CA and Patty (Arnel) Hansen of Minneapolis; four grandchildren: Shelley (Brad) Erickson, Steven Kussatz, Pam (Rob) Neild and Chad (Kathy) Kussatz; five great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law: Marilyn Kussatz of Wahpeton, ND; three sisters: Fern Zimmerman of Chokio, Marty Kroening of Morris and Juline Henderson of Las Vegas, NV; sister-in-law: Wilma Kroening of Morris and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son: Roy Kussatz; one granddaughter: Susan Pratt; her parents; four brothers: Carl, Norman, Herman and Loren and three sisters: Lucinda Madison, Esther Hannay and Nora Morris.





Pallbearers for the service are: Steven Kussatz, Chad Kussatz, Jerry Seigel, Paul Madison, Daryl Zimmerman and Delroy Heuer. Rita Lambert will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
