Evelyn Marian Olson, daughter of Bennie and Edna (Arneson) Hoium, was born on April 11, 1919, at her grandparent?s farm in New Prairie, Minnesota. She was baptized May 11, 1919 at St. John?s Lutheran Church in Starbuck by Reverend Forde and confirmed at Nora Lutheran Church, rural Kensington, Minnesota, on December 4, 1932. She attended country school in the elementary grades and following her graduation from Starbuck High School in 1937; she graduated from Cosmetology School in Minneapolis. She was united in marriage to Edwin J. Olson on October 7, 1939, at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck, with Reverend M. Casper Johnshoy officiating. To this union, one daughter, Patricia Ann was born. Evelyn worked as a telephone operator at the Starbuck Telephone Company for over twenty years and later as a nurse?s aid at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck for over twenty years.
Evelyn was a member of Fron WELCA, Bible Study Circle, Minnewaska Hospital Auxiliary, Minnewaska Lutheran Home Auxiliary and the Starbuck VFW Auxiliary. She especially enjoyed baking and cooking, cleaning house, spoiling her granddaughters, her great-grandson, and nieces and nephews with love and attention and visiting with family and friends.
Evelyn died on Saturday, June 4, 2005, at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 86 years.
She is survived by one daughter: Patricia Harbson of Alpena, MI; two granddaughters: Jodi Harbson of Davison, MI and Jessie Harbson of Detroit, MI; one great-grandson: Nathaniel Harbson of Davison, MI; two brothers: Wallace (Lorraine) Hoium of Moorhead and Jerome (Corrine) Hoium of Starbuck; sister-in-law: Pearl Hoium of Alexandria and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son-in-law: Terry Harbson and one brother: Ernest Hoium.
Pallbearers for the service are: John Carlson, Bruce Hoium, Gary Hoium, Maynard Hoium, Milo Holte, Robert Swenson, Dr. Den Harnish and Ken Elvehjem. Monica Gosseling will serve as organist for the service with John Carlson serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
