Evelyn Tangen

Funeral services for Evelyn Tangen of Starbuck will be held Monday, April 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, rural Lowry, Minnesota. Father Roger Thoennes will be officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in the Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery in Glenwood, MN.

Evelyn Mae McArthur, daughter of Bernard and Delphine (Ross) McArthur, was born May 10, 1939 in White Earth, Minnesota. She grew up in Mahnomen, where she began her education at St. Michael's Catholic School. She later graduated from the Home of the Good Shepherd Catholic School in St. Paul, Minnesota. Evelyn continued her education at Wadena Technical College in the Dental Assistant Program and later moved to Bemidji, where she enrolled in the bookkeeping Program at Bemidji Technical College. Following her schooling, she worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Minnesota Detox Center and Administrative Secretary with Indian Education in Cass Lake, Minnesota. On February 27, 1987, she was united in marriage to Neil Tangen. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Starbuck, Minnesota, where Evelyn worked alongside her husband in the Tangen Law Practice.

Evelyn enjoyed gardening and she was an extraordinary seamstress. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Evelyn died on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at her home in Starbuck, Minnesota. She had reached the age of 71 years.

She is survived by her husband: Neil Tangen of Starbuck; one son: Clyde (Tina) Stangle of Clarksville, TN; three daughters: Kelly Stangle of Mahnomen, Sandra (Robert) Stangle of Cass Lake and Elizabeth (Shannon) LeBeau-O'Neil of Rapid City, SD; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five brothers: Jack McArthur of Detroit Lakes, Clyde McArthur of Fargo, ND, Steve McArthur of Mahnomen, Scott McArthur of Mahnomen and Tim (Barb) McArthur of Mahnomen; five sisters: Lucille (Donald) Goodwin of Pine Bend, Sue (Ronald) Bellefuielle of Mahnomen, Nancy Bratvold of Minneapolis, LuVerne (Dennis) Hisgun of Mahnomen of Tammy McArthur of Mahnomen and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter: Joni Stangle; one son: Bernard Stangle and two sisters: Joan LaFreniere and Mary Ann Keogh.

Pallbearers for the service are: Kasey Wadena, Scott Stangle, Jeremy Stangle, Charlie Wadena, LeRoy Wadena, Robert Adams, Jr, Dylan Adams, Robert Adams, Sr. Honorary pallbearers are: Duane Pederson, Mike Walker, Evelyn's children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, Nelson O'Neill, Rev. Al Peterson, Catherine Adams, LeAnn Dick and Tammy Fairbanks. Ann Zavadil will serve as organist for the service with Dylan Adams serving as soloist.
