Evelyn B. Warnes

June 13, 1934 — November 14, 2023

Morris, Minnesota

Funeral services for Evelyn Warnes, of Morris, Minnesota, will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Morris, with a visitation beginning one hour prior to the services.  Reverend Erik Rundquist will be officiating. Burial will be at Summit Cemetery in Morris at a later date.

Evelyn Bernice (Torkelson) Warnes was born to Gunval and Julia Torkelson on June 13, 1934, in Karlstad, MN. She died peacefully on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at The Legacy in Morris, MN.

Evelyn was raised on the family farm near Karlstad and graduated from Karlstad High School. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and received a two-year teaching degree. She taught elementary school in Newfolden, MN and Washington D.C.

While she was at Concordia, she met Dennis Warnes on a blind date. They fell madly in love and were married 43 years until Dennis passed away after a four-year battle with ALS. During this time Evelyn heroically cared for him at their home in Morris, MN. Three sons were born to Evelyn and Dennis: Dan, Tim, and Pete.

Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. To say that she adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren is an understatement. Evelyn and Dennis attended as many football, basketball, and baseball games, track meets, cross country races, band concerts and Marching band competitions as time would allow. Evelyn was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church for 54 years. Evelyn was a valued friend to many and available to help anyone in need except when the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Jeopardy game show were on television.

Evelyn is survived by her sons: Dan (Marianne) Warnes of Lincoln, NE. Tim (Becky) Warnes of Shoreview, and Pete (Julie) Warnes of Kensington; grandchildren: Anna (Nathan Erickson) Warnes of Crete, NE, Kaaren (Greg) Barlow of Hammond, WI, Andy (Katie) Warnes of Mounds View, Taylor Warnes of Duluth, Sam Warnes of Roseville, Charlie (Val) Warnes of Maple Grove, and Jolynn (Zachary) Hodgson of Chokio; great-grandchildren: Gus, Knut, and Eva Erickson, Freya, Britta, and Odin Barlow, and Elijah, Gabriel, and Abigail Warnes; sister, Lorraine Costello of Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis; parents; and siblings: Harold, Alice, Audrey, Glen, Eunice, Clifford, Lulu, and Jerald.

Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in care of the arrangements for Evelyn.
