Evert Phillip Snell, son of George and Jessie (Telkamp) Snell, was born December 19, 1910 in Milbank, South Dakota. Evert's family moved to Iowa for a short time before moving to Minnesota. On September 5, 1937, he was united in marriage to Eveline Towner. The couple lived north of Chokio, where they farmed and raised their children. Following their retirement, they moved to Chokio. Eveline died on October 9, 1996. Evert has continued to live in Chokio until the time of his death. Evert enjoyed gardening, playing cribbage and reading westerns.
Evert died on Thursday, November 16, 2006 at West Wind Village in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 95 years.
He is survived by two sons: Ronald Snell of Chokio and David (Kathy) Snell of Chokio; two daughters: Dolores (Dennis) Tirevold of Cosmos and Annette (Arnold) Anderson of Gillette, WY; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one sister: Viola McCarty of Otho, IA. He was preceded in death by his wife; one daughter: Judy Snell; one son: George Snell; his parents; one brother: Louis Snell and two sisters: Verna Anderson and Georgia Anderson.
Pallbearers for the service are: Daryl Tirevold, Daniel Tirevold, Michael Snell, Jason Snell, Matthew Snell, Jeff Bent and Merle Parsley. Honorary pallbearers are all of Evert's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Deb Mahoney will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
