Florence Murphy

Funeral services for Florence Murphy of Morris, MN will be held Friday, June 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Father Todd Schneider will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Morris.

Florence Elizabeth McRoberts, daughter of Lewis and Margaret (Cowan) McRoberts, was born September 5, 1918 in Morris, Minnesota, where she grew up and was baptized on September 15, 1918 by Fr. Dvorak and confirmed on May 25, 1932 by Fr. G. Rauch at Assumption Catholic Church. Florence began her schooling at St. Mary's Catholic School in Morris and graduated in 1938 from Morris High School. On August 24, 1954, she was united in marriage to William Murphy by Father Victor Sigler at Assumption Catholic Church. The couple made their home in Morris, where Florence worked for Morris Floral and Greenhouse for 32 years. She then began housekeeping at the Sunwood Inn and later at the Stevens Community Medical Center. Florence and Willie enjoyed fishing and made many trips up north. After Willie passed away on January 29, 1975, she continued to travel with her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Roy to Colorado and Michigan. Florence continued to live in her home in Morris until 2011, when she became a resident of West Wind Village.

Florence was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, Daughters of Isabella and a longtime member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing softball, bowling, fishing, having coffee with friends and watching the Minnesota Twins and Timberwolves.

Florence died on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at West Wind Village in Morris. She lived to the age of 95 years.

She is survived by her brother, Jim and Janice McRoberts of Morris and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers: Lewis (Amelia) McRoberts, Raymond (Elizabeth) McRoberts and Harvey (Amelia) McRoberts; one sister: Margaret (Roy) Schmidt and one sister-in-law: Rose Ann McRoberts.
