Funeral services for Florence (Tangen) Roos of Starbuck, MN will be a private family service. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 28, 2020 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Starbuck, at a later date.
There will be a live stream of Florence’s service starting at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 29th at the Starbuck V.F.W. in Starbuck, as well as a link at the bottom of Florence’s page on our website.
While maintaining social distancing guidelines, we are now able to accommodate gatherings of up to 250 people. The use of face masks by attendees is required, and we will continue taking the necessary steps to keep our facility clean. For those who prefer or require continued precautions, webcasting and/or livestreaming is available in most situations.
Florence Louise Herr, daughter of Wallace and Viola (Behm) Herr, was born February 14, 1933 in Atwater, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran church in Atwater. Florence lived with her parents on a farm until she graduated May 31, 1951. Following her schooling, she worked at Skelly Filling Station. Florence was united in marriage to Russell Tangen on June 20, 1952. The couple made their home on a farm near Starbuck. Russell passed away May 15, 1984. In 1985, Florence began working at the Starbuck school for a year and later was a cook at various cafes in Starbuck, Glenwood, Paynesville, Brooten and Belgrade. She also worked cleaning homes for people and the city hall in Belgrade. While working in Belgrade, Florence met Henry Roos and they were married May 8, 2004. They enjoyed retirement together in Belgrade and later moved to Starbuck. Henry passed away December 12, 2019. Florence continued to live in Starbuck until the time of her death.
Florence was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Belgrade, the Starbuck V.F.W. Auxiliary and Ladies Aide. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafts and fishing.
Florence died Sunday, October 25, 2020 at Holly Ridge in Starbuck, Minnesota. She was 87 years old.
She is survived by eleven children: Linda (Jerry) Meulebroeck of Glenwood, Shirley (special friend, Joe Gleason) Tangen of Waseca, Phyllis (special friend, Clayton) Manthei of Starbuck, Don Tangen of Starbuck, Lee (Pam) Tangen of Starbuck, Cheryl (John) Herbst of New Richland, Charlene (Kurt) Van Luik of Starbuck, Paul Tangen of Owatonna, Bill (Andrea) Tangen of Waseca, Joe Tangen of Starbuck and Peter Tangen of Elbow Lake; 19 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brother: Calvin (Vonnie) Herr of Kentucky; sister: Judi (Ron) Hedkte of Atwater; two step-daughters: Cindy Christians and Connie (Chris) Johnson of New Brighton and numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell Tangen; her second husband, Henry Roos; son: Dean Tangen; two infant sons; son-in-law: Brian Manthei and two grandsons: Tony Schoen and Casey Tangen.
