Funeral services for Florentine Erickson of Herman, Minnesota will be held Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Kongsvinger Lutheran Church, rural Donnelly. Reverend Judy Gelinske will be officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Kongsvinger Lutheran Cemetery.
Florentine Ottillia Duwenhoegger, daughter of Fred and Rose (Schlichte) Duwenhoegger, was born September 27, 1928 in Wilmont, Minnesota. Florentine attended one year of schooling at Herman rural schools and six years at Donnelly. She completed her schooling at Alberta High School in Alberta, MN, graduating in 1946. On April 19, 1948, she was united in marriage to Gilbert Erickson at the Assumption Parsonage in Morris. The couple moved to Herman in 1949, where they farmed and raised their son, Gordon. Florentine also worked at the Grant County Hospital in Elbow Lake and the Morris Hospital for 15 years. Gilbert died on April 13, 2001. Florentine continued to live on the farm until September 27, 2012, when she moved to the Broen Home in Fergus Falls, where she continued to live until the time of her death.
Florentine was a member of Kongsvinger Lutheran Church, where she served on the KLCW, Sunshine Ladies Committee and the quilting group. She was also a delegate to West Central Home in Morris, a member of the Herman Norcross American Legion Auxiliary, Homemakers Club and Elbow Lake Hospital Auxiliary, where she organized the bargain bazaar. Florentine enjoyed playing cards, scrabble, fishing, hunting, cross word puzzles, crocheting, knitting, sewing, making lefsa and square dancing with the Sons of Norway. Florentine and Gilbert spent over 30 years as snow birds in Arizona, where they enjoyed golfing. She also enjoyed the trip to Norway with Gilbert and bus trips with Bertha and the Alaskan Cruise with her nieces.
Florentine died on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the Broen Home in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She lived to reach the age of 84 years.
She is survived by one son: Gordon Erickson of Herman; two cousins: Myrna (Bob) Tomalla of Alberta and Diane (Howard) Thompson of New River, AZ; nieces and nephews: Carol Holten of Glenwood, Arden Frank of Morris, Kenneth Frank of Donnelly, Diane (Donald) Mitchell of Maple Grove, Raymond (Betty) Kill of Donnelly, Pat (Mark) Seiben of Glenwood, Peggy (Lawrence) Ascheman of Breckenridge, Jeanne (Dale) Ennen of Donnelly, Nancy (Marty) Martinez of KS and Sheila (Trevor) Wendel of ND, extended family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; baby girl Erickson; her parents; one sister: Mildred Duwenhoegger and cousin: Billy Jo Duwenhoegger.
