Floyd LeRoy Schmidgall

Funeral services for Floyd Schmidgall will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church - Morris North in Morris. The Apostolic Christian Church Ministers will be officiating.  A visitation will be on Sunday, March 12, from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church – Morris North and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church.  Burial will be at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery, rural Morris.

Floyd LeRoy Schmidgall was born on August 3, 1928, in Hancock, Minnesota, to John and Elizzie (Metzger) Schmidgall.  He was raised in Hancock where he received his education, graduating with the Hancock High School, class of 1946.  While Floyd was in high school, he worked at a local drug store.  Following high school, Floyd moved to Fargo, North Dakota, to continue his education and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy.  He returned home and started his career at Hancock Drug Store.  Floyd entered into the United States Army in 1951, serving with the Army 7th Medical Battalion in the Korean War.  Floyd was honorably discharged in 1953.  On May 6, 1951, Floyd was united in marriage to Vila Mae Zeltwanger of Hancock, at the Apostolic Christian Church near Morris.  Following their marriage, they made their home in Hancock for a number of years until 1957, when they moved to Morris where they raised their family.  Floyd transitioned to Messner Drug in Morris and in 1960, they purchased Johnson Drug in Morris, which was later City Center Drug.  Floyd and Vi worked alongside each other, running their business, for many years before selling City Center Drug in 2005.  They continued to live in Morris.  Vila preceded Floyd in death on February 20, 2007. 

Floyd was an active member of the Apostolic Christian Church where he served as a Minister from April 19, 1964, to March 28, 1999.  He cherished the time that he spent with his family and friends.  Floyd had a deep relationship with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and his greatest desire was that all would come to know him as Savior and friend. 

Floyd died peacefully on Monday, February 27, 2023, at the Courage Cottage in Morris, he was 94 years old.

Floyd is survived by his children: Pam (Randy) Sutter of Peoria, IL, Dan (Jacki) Schmidgall of Morris, Tom (Ruth) Schmidgall of Morris, Kayla (Dan) Hoerr of Peoria, IL Jodi (Keith) Schieler of Morris, John (Tiffany) Schmidgall of Morris, and Jennifer Schmidgall of Eastvale, CA; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; siblings: Barbara (Vernard) Brown of Morris, Marilyn Lanz of Rockville, CT, and Marion Schmidgall of Hancock.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Vila; one grandson, David; parents, John and Lizzie Schmidgall; and siblings: Ray, Kenneth, Laura, Katherine, Linda, Benjamin, William, Clara, Nola, Josephine, and Norene.
