Memorial services for Francis "Fran" Spencer of Hancock, MN will be held Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Hancock. Reverend Julius Miller will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.
Francis Eugene Spencer, son of James and Ida (Whitmer) Spencer, was born June 19, 1942 in Morris, Minnesota. He was confirmed at St. Johns' Lutheran Church in Hancock. Fran graduated from Hancock High School and later attended The Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he also worked in the Post Office. On June 26, 1965 he was united in marriage to Sandra Bozych in Milbank, South Dakota. Following their marriage, Fran and Sandy moved to Kerkhoven, where Fran bought a business and ran it for ten years. They then moved to Minneota, where he was employed by the City as the Manager of the Municipal Liquor Store, later taking a job with McLaughlin and Schultz in Marshall. Later they moved to Hancock, where Fran began his own business selling specialty items. He later retired and they have continued to live in Hancock since that time.
Fran was a member of the Kerkhoven Rescue Squad and Commercial Club. He enjoyed fishing, golf and playing cards with his buddies. He was an avid Minnesota sports fan, especially the Twins. He was a kind and caring person and would talk to anyone. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Francis took good care of his loved ones and he will be greatly missed by his best friend and spouse, Sandy.
Francis died on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at his home in Hancock, having lived to reach the age of 69 years.
He is survived by his wife: Sandy Spencer of Hancock; three children: Steve (Teri) Sokulski of Willmar, Christine Maxwell of Hancock and Brian Spencer of Minneota; three grandchildren: Tanner Maxwell, Kyle Sokulski and Tyler Maxwell; five siblings: Bonnie (Duane) Hausmann of Morris, Donald (Janet) Spencer of Hancock, David (Sheryl) Spencer of Tracy, James (Sharon) Spencer of Brandon and Jerry (Judy) Spencer of Atwater and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Brandon Reed Maxwell.
Honorary pallbearers are Fran's grandchildren: Tyler Maxwell, Kyle Sokulski and Tanner Maxwell. Sandy Pahl will serve as organist for the service with Maurine Nelson serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
