Funeral services for Fred Kill of Morris, Minnesota will be held Friday, November 4, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Father Robert Kieffer will be officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 and a KC rosary to follow at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Morris. Military rites will be provided by the Morris American Legion, VFW and AmVets.
Frederick William Kill, son of John and Clara (Kraemer) Kill, was born January 15, 1924 on the family farm in Morris Township in Stevens County, Minnesota, where he grew up and received his schooling in the Donnelly and Morris area. Fred received his GED in 1970. On December 28, 1944, Fred enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Okinawa and Korea as a Technician 5 Carpenter General and as a Technician 4 Artillery Mechanic Minor Maintenance with the 48th Field Artillery, 7th Infantry Division. He received an honorable discharge in November, 1946. Following his discharge, he returned to Morris, where he worked as a mechanic in a partnership and then worked for several businesses. On October 6, 1956, he was united in marriage to Helen Benson at the Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. The couple lived in Morris, where Fred worked at the UMM West Central Experiment Station, working on experimental plots and in plant services, taking care of equipment, vehicles and welding. He also worked with projects such as, building computer tables, weight benches and signs. Some of which Fred claimed are still being used today. He took great pride in all the work he did. He retired from the University in 1986 and he and Helen have continued to live in Morris since that time.
Fred was a life member of the VFW Post #309 and the Morris American Legion Post #29. He enjoyed woodworking projects for the family, going fishing, mechanical puzzles, camping with the family and especially going dancing with Helen.
Fred died on Monday, October 31, 2011 at West Wind Village in Morris, MN, having lived to reach the age of 87 years.
He is survived by his wife: Helen Kill of Morris; five children: Lynn (Gary) Koos of Starbuck, Jean (Don) Eich of Hutchinson, Gerald (Viola) Kill of Minneapolis, Thomas (Judy) Kill of Minneapolis and Lyle (Tracy) Kill of Minneapolis; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; one brother: Frank (Gloria) Kill of Morris and one sister-in-law: Elsie Kill of Benson. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Robert Kill and John (Almira) Kill and infant sister, Mary Kill.
Serving as pallbearers are: Dan Benson, Alfred Kill, Ray Kill, Joe Kill, Greg Dablow and Larry Anderson. Honorary pallbearers are the McDonald's coffee group and all who called him friend. Linda Hodgson will serve as pianist for the service with Ken Hodgson serving as song leader. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
