Funeral services for Gary Rasche of Starbuck, MN will be held Friday, April 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck, MN. Reverend Paul Johnson will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Gary (Garry) Allen Rasche, the son of Harold Rasche and Betty Williams, was born on September 3rd, 1943 in Truman, Minnesota. He finished his traditional education with a high school diploma from the Mountain Lake Public School in 1962.
Gary worked at Draper's for many years while living in Fairmont, Minnesota.
He owned The Sportsman Bar in Jackson, Minnesota and worked at Monarch Industries in Mountain Lake. His employment also included Caldwell's in Windom, Minnesota for 11 years where he had obtained his Chief Boiler license. The last job of his working career found him at CVEC (Chippewa Valley Ethanol Company) when they first opened as a new facility in 1996. Gary took pride in being the first "Chief" hired when the new plant opened and remained proud to have been a part of what he considered an extension of his family. The entire CVEC work force have proven this to be true with their love and support that they have shown Gary during his health issues and continue to do in supporting Gary's family.
Gary was united in marriage to Bonnie Lou Oltmans on January 30th, 1976 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. With this marriage he became a stepfather to two children: Sally (age 4) and Will (age 2). Both children looked upon him as a wonderful father and felt blessed to have had him in their lives. He also had two daughters from a previous marriage (Joyce Holland) and kept them close in his heart: Kerri and Nicole.
Gary had many interests, but, fishing with friends and family and watching sports were his favorites. He loved to garden and had a little plot each year even when health made it more difficult. He found great joy in giving friends and neighbors the fruits of his harvest as well as spending time in the kitchen preparing his own "creations". He enjoyed his grandchildren and their accomplishments who in return adored him and think he truly was the "greatest Papa in the world."
Gary passed away on Thursday, April 21st, 2011 at the Saint Cloud Hospital after a long health struggle involving his loving, but tired heart. He is survived by Bonnie, his wife of 35 years, and his children: Sally (Mrs. Tony Ewert) of Mountain Lake, Minnesota; William Wessels, Jr. (Ritsuko Wessels) of Okinawa, Japan; Kerri and Nicole. Also surviving him are his grandchildren: Lukas, Yoshi, Yuta, Cutter Jon, Maria and Erica. He was the oldest of 4 brothers: Claude (Gail), Bruce (Linda) & Keith Rasche (Judy) and one sister, Cheryl Benson (Tim). He is also survived by his mother, stepfather and stepbrother; Betty, Melvin and Deloy King (Ellen) of Windom, Minnesota, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tyler Sr. and Hazel Williams, and his father, Harold.
HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED
